Balkanica presents the MONOTRAMA SS26 collection
The Huari print is reborn as Festatrama, a chromatic celebration inspired by pre-Hispanic Huari textiles, reinterpreting rectangles, squares, and straight lines with a vibrant and contemporary energy.
The collection also incorporates two new prints: “Monotrama” and “Monodanza”, both inspired by the Peruvian spider monkey. This symbol, rooted in pre-Hispanic iconography and reinterpreted by Elena Izcue in *El arte peruano en la escuela* (1925), becomes here a bridge between tradition and modernity.
The overall concept intertwines pre-Hispanic cosmovision with European modernism from Neoplasticism (De Stijl, 1917). The result is a geometric abstraction where rectangles and pure lines generate asymmetrical, balanced, and harmonious compositions. Red and light blue outlines on solid color planes evoke both architectural diagrams and a retro-artistic spirit linked to museums, collecting, and mid-century architecture.
The name MONOTRAMA contains a double meaning: the “mono” (monkey), as a cultural symbol and tribute to Peruvian fauna; and the “trama” (weave/pattern), understood as textile, graphic, and artistic composition.
